Aino Kallas
Aino Kallas (1878-1956), born Aino Krohn, was a Finnish writer who gained acclaim for her short stories and novels. She published early poetry under the pseudonym Aino Suonio. She adapted some of her works for the stage herself, and some of her stories were adapted for the cinema after her death.
Her work saw translations in English, French, Dutch, Swedish, German, Italian, Danish, and Hungarian, and she won several prizes, including the State Prize for Literature in Finland (several times), and the Lyceum Club Literature Prize in London. She is one of Finland's most renowned authors, and is also famous in Estonia, where she lived and wrote as well .
Sudenmorsian (1928), the third book in her "Deadly Eros" trilogy, is a werewolf story based on Estonian witch-hunt chronicles, translated into English as The Wolf's Bride.
