Alanya to Alanya plot summary

February 2076. The Marq'ssan impose the Blanket. All tech stops working. The aliens demand 3 women representatives from each government. Robert Sedgewick asks Kay Zeldin to work for the government as a spy while being a delegate. Lisa Mott gives her some cryptic warnings.

Leleynl, Magyyt, and Sorben have been on earth for 40-80 years working with subversives, cooperatives, and other organizations.

Delegates argue on the alien ship.

The Executive class and the government assume they are dealing with terrorists. Sedgewick and Zeldin's interactions continue to intensify. Sedgewick reveals to Zeldin that the executive males are castrated. Zeldin meets Raines and Alexandra.

Dowsanto and other large corporate or war facilities are destroyed by the Marq'ssan. The delegates and aliens begin to establish Free Zones.

Zeldin is included in several Executive male meetings, and witnesses Susan Hoffman's torture. Sedgewick turns Lisa Mott against Zeldin.

The Marq'ssan are very confused and somewhat contaminated by their separation from their homeworld/hive mind and their physical embodiment & contact with humans; they are not sure if they're doing the right thing.

The free women of the U.S. argue with the rest of the world's free women.

Martha Greenglass, an activist, connects with Louise and a women's underground. Martha, Sorben, and Louise go looking for documentation of arrests, rape, & torture by the ODS. Sorben destructurs all the secret service records and storerooms of weapons on their raid. Magyyt and other Marq'ssan are shocked.

Sedgewick tries to sneak a man in disguise into the delegates. The Marq'ssan correct Zeldin's brain damage. Zeldin defects to the Marq'ssan, as she is terrified of Sedgewick and disgusted by the gender war the Executives are unleashing. Zeldin agrees to play double agent and continue acting as a delegate, carrying a communications device disguised as a pen. Marq'ssan destroy Boeing's property and buildings.

Martha is arrested and kept in solitary. Sorben rescues her.

Sedgewick takes Zeldin to his island off the coast of Maine. He takes her to a room with yellow wallpaper. There is an intense scene between them. Zeldin and Sedgewick discuss their past in Security and as sexual partners, and the incident in the hotel room in Calais.

Zeldin is sent to Seattle with Sandy, her secretary. She sees her husband Scott very briefly. She looks through files in the ODS office run by Knight. Operation Scapegoat. The Capitol Hill Massacre.

Louise, Martha, and Sorben are part of the movement to free Seattle. Sedgewick stages a sort of coup against Turpin and Devito, other executive men in the government.

Zeldin becomes increasingly desperate to escape from Sedgewick's constant mind games, sexual advances, and threats. She pulls a gun on Sedgewick and Weatherall, ties them up, and drugs them. She escapes with Sorben's help, then meeting Louise and Martha. The Marq'ssan withdraw from Earth, except for Lelenyl, Magyyt, Sorben, Tyln, Fhlan, and Morghous, who may or may not be allowed to return to Marquei. A ship will return in 10 years.
