Fantômette is a fictional character who was created by Georges Chaulet. She appeared in about 50 books, which were written by Chaulet and primarily illustrated by Jeanne Hives and Josette Stéfani. She also starred in eponymous bandes dessinées and animated television series.

The adventures of Fantômette started in 1961 and are ongoing.

Fantômette is a costumed hero: she is a crimefighter, a detective, a world-travelling adventurer, a saviour of people in danger, a treasure-finder, a superhero. She wears tights, a cape and a mask, and a dagger. She is related to the literary tradition of Fantômas and Arsène Lupin, Tintin and Zorro, Robin Hood and Sherlock Holmes, and comic book superheroes. Like Batman, she has no superpowers, but relies on her intelligence, ingenuity, martial arts skills, and her gadgets.

Fantômette is related to Françoise Dupont, a 12-year-old French schoolgirl, rather in the same way that Superman is related Clark Kent.
