Fanvid

A fanvid or vid (as is it more commonly within fandom) is a videoclip created by fans from a canon media source, usually films or television series, and set to music.

The art of vidding lies in the clever timing and editing of clips to convey a story or a theme, which either extrapolates from the stories told in the canon, or reinvents it by a completely new or unexpected juxtaposition of scenes. The synchronisation of the vid to the music chosen by the vidder, the use of stylistic effects, text, and the conjunction of song lyrics heard over the edited visuals, allow the fan creators to work across an extremely broad range of creative expression.

Thus, vidding can be a form of fan fiction, of slash, and also of fannish critique of the source material.
