feministSF.org is a loose association of folks who coordinate various projects which are hosted at feministSF.net. Projects include:
- the feministSF listserves (feministSF and feministSF-lit). The feministSF list began originally in 1995 and was administered for 10 years primarily by Laura Quilter, with periodic assistance from Chris Shaffer. During this time the list split for several years into two lists: feministsf and feministsf-lit, also known as fsffu and fsffu-lit. Since 2005 or so, Lee Anne Phillips has been administering the list, with periodic assistance from Laura Quilter. See http://feministsf.net/lists/ .
- the feministSF book discussion group (BDG), which is a monthly discussion of a particular book; the BDG takes place on the feministSF list but has a separate website -- http://bdg.feministsf.net/ . The BDG has been run by list members including Jennifer Krauel; most recently it has been run by Janice Dawley and Lee Anne Phillips. See http://bdg.feministsf.net/
- the feministSF wiki (FSFwiki)! You are here. The FSFwiki officially began in 2006. Laura Quilter, Janice Dawley, and Liz Henry have been co-administrators. See http://wiki.feministsf.net/ .
- a group blog, getting started in mid-2006, http://blogs.feministsf.net/ . Laura Quilter, Liz Henry, and Janice Dawley have been co-administrators. See http://blogs.feministsf.net/ .
- a FeministSF Carnival; proposed by Laura Quilter in 2006; Ragnell has run it since its inception, setting up the carnival blog software and selecting carnival issue hosts. See http://carnival.feministsf.net/
- FeministSF Fora - forums and forum software essentially run by Rain, with minimal back-end support by Laura Quilter and moderation by numerous folks. See http://forums.feministsf.net/ .
- FeministSF.org bibliography - The original bibliography established by Laura Quilter, and contributed to by numerous editors, particularly including Liz Henry.
- A book swap / for-sale; late 1990s
- Scholars' directory; late 1990s
- Bulletin board; late 1990s
- FeministSF.org back-end work: Laura Quilter handles most of the back-end work of feministSF, including backups, installs, permissions, etc. If there are problems see her!
Other proposed or in-progress projects include:
- collaboration space
- calendar of feministSF events
- archive of feministSF on the web
- jabber & secure communications for the feministSF community
- feministSF research/scholarship archive
- feministSF feed aggregator
- project space for specific projects, such as the Laadan Working Group
- discussion space for feministSF writers, such as Ursula K. Le Guin, Sheri S. Tepper, Joanna Russ, etc.
Other projects may be proposed -- send email to webmistress at feministsf.org .
The project began as a website founded by Laura Quilter in December 1994 as two webpage bibliographies on Sheri S. Tepper and Ursula K. Le Guin, respectively. After significant positive interest, the site quickly developed into the "feminist science fiction, fantasy and utopian website". In 1997-98, the site moved to its own domain, http://feministSF.org . The original bibliographies & enhanced resources are still available at http://feministsf.org.
