Fritz Leiber

Fritz Leiber was a SF writer, also active in fandom. He is best known for his Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser series, but he also wrote several other award winning works. Joanna Russ' Alyx was influenced by the Leiber's Fafhrd & Gray Mouser-style sword and sorcery (Leiber has been credited with coining the term), and indeed, Alyx appeared in two of the stories.

  • Fafhrd and Gray Mouser series - A tall barbarian and a short thief join forces for various adventures.
  • Conjure Wife (1943) - A college professor discovers that his wife has been helping his career with magic, and indeed that all men's careers are made or broken by their wives, whom they had assumed were "simply" wives. Filmed several times:
    • Weird Woman (1944)
    • Burn, Witch, Burn! (aka Night of the Eagle (1962)
    • Witches' Brew (aka Which Witch Is Which?) (1980)
