Galactic suburbia is a phrase developed by Joanna Russ in her 1970 essay, "The Image of Women in Science Fiction". She described the work of Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, and other noted SF writers who "[saw] the relations between the sexes as those of present-day [1970], white, middle-class suburbia" -- the class in which they operated.
