Genly Ai is one of two principal characters in Ursula K. Le Guin's novel The Left Hand of Darkness. He is a representative of the Ekumen to the planet Gethen (or Winter). He is referred to at one point as "the man whose name is a cry."

Ai is male (where Gethenians are ungendered most of the time). He is also a character of color.
