Many things, people, animals, locations, natural features, buildings, roads, etc., are named after people to honor them. Who decides who's worthy of honoring, and thus whose names are magnified, is of course a political process.
Not surprisingly, it turns out that most things that are named after people are named after men.
Here is a list of SFnal things named after women:
