Mia Havero is the youthful protagonist of Rite of Passage by Alexei Panshin. She lives on a generation ship where her father is a powerful political figure, who sends her to study with his arch-rival. Her study companion, Jimmy Dentremont, becomes her close friend. Mia and Jimmy and their young teen gang have several adventures, culminating in "Trial," where all youth of a certain age are dropped from the ship onto a planet and left to fend for themselves and/or take care of each other.

Mia was a conscious response to Podkayne in Robert E. Heinlein's Podkayne of Mars. Where Podkayne is focused on marriage and "girl's interests," Mia likes soccer, adventures, and school.
