Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999), written & directed by George Lucas, is the first prequel to the original Star Wars trilogy.
It inspired a huge resurgence in fandom, as well as severe criticisms, especially for its writing and for alien characters which resembled racist stereotypes.
