Works which reinterpret a previous story or concept. Commonly, reinterpretations of fairy tales, folktales, and myths; but reinterpretations of literary and media works have also become increasingly common over the past few years.

Works that retell older stories, interrelate to the original, homages, etc. Fanfiction is a referential work. Excludes sequels by the same author which merely continue the same work. Only if a work was substantially re-envisioned would a sequel count.
