Astronaut

Astronauts are space travellers. The term mostly applies to professionals who work in human spaceflight programs, but may also cover just about anyone who travels into space.

Astronauts are a basic character type in science fiction, but also exist in real life, so it is necessary to distinguish between the real and the fictional for the purposes of this wiki. References to real astronauts matter for the purposes of feminist analysis of, or influence on fictional ones -- and vice-versa, such as when Star Trek's Lieutenant Uhura inspired Mae Jemison's astronaut career, and this then led to Jemison appearing in an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation ("Second Chances").
