This is an index of female characters, for the encyclopedia of female characters.

Any female protagonist or major female character of a [[SFnal]] work may be included. 
 
Characters are alphabetized by the conventions of their society, if known.  For most SFnal and alternate history works that means alphabetical by family name first.  If it is a made-up or unknown naming alphabetical system, then it's a judgment call: family name if it seems earthlike; first name if they're always known by first name or if it seems like family name is less important or if you can't really tell what their family name is or which to use.  Cross-references are helpful.  Single-name protagonists are alphabetized under their single-name. Aliases, variant names, and superhero identity names should also include cross-references.
